(Speaker Posting) Emerging Collaboration Technologies: Blogs and Wikis and Microsoft SharePoint

Blogs often provide commentary or news on a particular subject and can be public, or protected and therefore only accessible within an organization or a team. Blogs have revolutionaized the process of publishing information on the Web as well as the sharing of information within companies. A wiki on the other hand is a collection of web-pages that anyone can edit. Wikis are used as a knowledge-base similar to wikipedia, and as a collaboration tool reducing reliance on group email. With wikis you can reduced email volume, cut down meeting times, and accelerate project cycles. And finally, Windows SharePoint, is a Microsoft add-on to Windows Server 2003, which offers powerful collaboration tool that includes document management, calendar, and task management.

 

In this session, we will explain the benefits of blogs and wikis and Microsoft SharePoint, and demonstrate the steps involved in creating them and using them, and show how they can be useful for business professionals and oganizations in their collaboration effort. At the end of this meeting, you will have the information you need to define the vision and purpose for your blog and/or wiki and/or Microsoft SharePoint site, as well as many insights into how to go about implementing them.
